Mariana Ruiz Johnson

 

Illustrator and author from Argentina. Her main interests are the narrative power of the image, anthropomorphic characters, the use of color as a compositional element, nocturnal scenes, childhood, the power of nature, humor and magic. She studied Fine Arts and book illustration for children. She has published books as an author and illustrator on all continents. In 2013 she received the Compostela Prize for Picture Book for her book “Mama”, published by Kalandraka and translated into ten languages. In 2015 she was the winner of the international Silent Book Contest with the book “While you sleep”, which was published in Italy by Carthusia Edizioni. With Apila she has published the picture book “The red scarf”.
She currently lives with her family on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, and dedicates her time to illustrating and writing her own books. She also enjoys working with other authors.
